Blueberry Season!

It was the perfect day for blueberry picking! We loaded up the boys and headed off to Westmoreland to High Hopes Farm.

Flashback to last year's trip to High Hopes: Last year's outing didn't go so well. Oh, we got plenty of blueberries, but because of an unknown hole in Jason's shorts pocket....his keys dropped out who knows where in the vast field of blueberry bushes. The owner was so accomodating, that he let us use his Volvo, and his grandchildren's carseats to drive home to retrieve our spare set of car keys (we had to break into the house to get them out). The next day we received a call from the owner, letting us know that Jason's keys had been found by his mower!!

After making sure that Jason's shorts were free of snags and gaping holes, we started picking. We got 2 large buckets full. Cooper actually ate more than he dropped in the bucket....BUT it was better than last year in that he ate them directly off the bush, rather than off the ground. Baby steps. Jackson focused on not picking the green berries--apologizing to each green berry that ended up in the bucket for ending its life so prematurely.

We stopped by the raspberry bushes on the way out and filled 3 pint baskets full of beautiful red berries. This is the tail end of the season for raspberries, so we lucked out. I think more raspberries ended up in my belly this time.

We left the farm WITH the keys and without any incident, with visions of fresh raspberry pie and blueberry muffins dancing in our heads.
